Sowing Seeds of Faith

Jorge Aguilar is a farmer and has worked for a few years in the agriculture world in Honduras. He has experience in the care of plantations and planting and harvesting. He also knows that sometimes his job can take more time than planned or that the earth doesn’t always produce as desired. In this way he has learned patience and perseverance throughout his life.

And then this farmer became a church planter.

“I knew in my heart that God was calling me and when the opportunity presented itself to be trained to learn how to plant a church, I knew it was a confirmation from God for my life,” Jorge shares.

As he received the training from Multiplication Network Ministries (MNM), Jorge applied what he was learning. He first looked for an area that did not have a church to start sharing the gospel there. He, along with his mentor, Pastor David, prayed and after a few days, they felt they should begin visiting the families in the community of San Jerónimo.

“At first they did not want to listen to us because they believed we were a cult. So we decided to try sharing the gospel through events where we spoke the Word so that everyone could hear us,” Jorge says, “We did this for a few days and just when it seemed like no one heard what we shared, a family said they wanted to learn more about Christ.”

For Jorge, this was a sign that the people needed God. He knew he couldn’t stop then because the seed was just falling on fertile soil. “I continued sharing God’s Word with the people of the community. Little by little they trusted me and invited me into their homes so I could teach them more,” says Jorge.

Then all the people who had opened their homes to him began to meet together. “The house where we are meeting now is the house of one of the women in the church. Even though she had to travel to another country, she allowed us to stay and we began to share the gospel with her father. God touched his heart and he gave himself to the Lord and then his daughters did so and now the whole family follows Jesus!” Jorge says.

After the Church of God in San Jerónimo was planted, the people began to recognize how God was making a change in their lives. “Others in the community see the testimony of the lives of the people who are part of the church and they see how they’ve changed and they want to see what we’re doing.”

Jorge is thankful for having received MNM’s training, especially the section about how to approach others to share the gospel. He knows he will continue in this work so others can be transformed by the Lord.
