Lucinda's Story - Mozambique

Multiplication Network Ministries (MNM) Founder and President Dr. John Wagenveld says,  'The Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is affecting us globally as national leaders in newly planted churches are having to find different ways of ministering in their communities.' Please note that all of MNM's leaders around the world have been cautioned to reduce exposure and be safe while following the regulations set by their countries' governments.

Lucinda Jonas was born into a family that faced poverty and closely held on to pagan beliefs. She went to school in poor conditions. One day in 2014, Lucinda had a personal encounter with Jesus. She then started going to church but faced resistance from her family because of their false beliefs.

Lucinda persevered in her new faith and six years later, she joined a church planter training class through Multiplication Network Ministries (MNM) in Beira, Mozambique. She learned about evangelism and healthy church plants. Lucinda was attentive and continually asked the presenter thoughtful questions about faith and salvation.

When Lucinda was tasked with putting what she’d learned into practice, she went to her friend Noemia’s house to talk with her. She began telling Noemia about Jesus and how He died so she could give glory to God and have eternal life. Eventually, Noemia accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and asked Him into her life.

In the face of COVID-19, Lucinda has used this strategy of going to people’s houses to share the gospel. Even though the churches are closed and small groups cannot meet, Lucinda has made it her goal to visit her friends in their homes in order to share the Good News with them. By visiting within social distancing practices, Lucinda has had great opportunities to share the gospel in person. Lucinda recognizes there is a great need to find new ways to evangelize in the midst of the pandemic. She believes that now people need God more than ever and need to hear the hope of the gospel.

Members of her training class have adopted Lucinda’s method of using home visits to minister and share the Good News. As a result, many people are coming to Jesus! This class has reported reaching hundreds of people with the gospel in just two months. Among those reached, more than 100 have accepted Jesus and are growing in their faith. Even without meeting physically, the Church in Mozambique keeps multiplying!
