The Best Step

A personal relationship with God wasn’t really part of what Rigoberto and Irma had been taught. Their religion had simply been something they both grew up with and helped them fit in with their neighbors in San Jerónimo, Honduras who believed the same things.

“I was not vicious or a mean person,” Rigoberto shares. “But I felt a discontentment in my heart and I didn’t have the peace or happiness I knew my heart desired.”

Rigoberto shares that when he and his wife Irma heard about how Jesus loves them, he knew salvation was only in Jesus Christ. Accepting Jesus as his Savior “was the best step I could have taken.”

Irma also says that since they accepted Jesus in their hearts, it has been a big change for their lives. “My husband has changed and despite the problems we have to go through, we have peace because we know Christ is with us,” she says with a smile.

R&I Church

With the true example of love that is in Jesus, Rigoberto says he can love his family and his wife better—“That is the love that God has put in me.”

Even though the people in their town are not as open to them as before, this couple says they wouldn’t change the life they have now in Jesus for the empty life they had before knowing Him.

A great blessing Rigoberto and Irma received recently was having a church established in their own community. “Before there was no church and the only Christians who were here had to go far away to meet together,” Irma shares. She and Rigoberto are grateful that God has used Jorge Aguilar to bring a church to the community.

The church is in the patio area of a house and they have chairs to set up outside under a covering so they can listen to what Jorge has to say about the Word of God. All those involved are especially thankful that Jorge was willing to continue in his work despite resistance from others. Because of his perseverance, there is a church in San Jerónimo!
