Susana's Story

In Tempoal, Mexico, the people are dedicated to fishing and to their traditional religion. But many suffer from alcoholism and it is one of the reason families and marriages are falling apart and young people are falling under its influence. This reality is nothing new for church planter Susana Cervantes, who has lived there for a few years. Nevertheless, she is sure this sad reality can change – “They need the gospel and to know the Lord Jesus as the only one who can change their lives and save them from their sins.”

When Susana decided to accept the call to plant a church, she knew she needed to do it in this community. It was not easy—many people were not happy she was preaching the gospel. Those who listened weren’t always willing to change their religious traditions.

But Susana shares how the church planter training through Multiplication Network Ministries (MNM) helped her. “The more I learned about planting a church, evangelizing, and discipling, the more I got excited to continue and not give up.”

The work of planting a new church has helped Susana to grow spiritually even as she leads others in discipleship. Her interest in praying and reading the Bible has grown in a great way, strengthening her faith to continue sharing the gospel in this area.

God has been faithful. Susana has seen 15 people give their lives to Jesus and now they are part of the new church. Susana hopes more people can get to know the Lord. With the tools and resources provided by the MNM training, she knows she is more prepared for the continued work. She asks God to give her wisdom to stay attuned to His will as she teaches and disciples the people of Tempoal.
