Planting Seed that Multiplies

Soon after Rufino Pineda and his family became Christians, they decided to move to the city. But after a while, they realized that they needed to return to where Rufino grew up. Their reason? The people there needed to hear the Word of God.

Rufino had the conviction that since God had rescued him from his life of sin and darkness, he needed to help the people in his community who had not yet received this good news of salvation. They are now living in La Guacamaya, Honduras, in between the mountains. They became involved in the local church and then one day, their pastor had a proposition for Rufino.

"Pastor Roberto invited me to participate in the church planting training with Multiplication Network Ministries (MNM)," Rufino says. That meant traveling two hours to receive the training in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. Rufino didn’t hesitate. He knew this was an answer to prayer. God had called him to share the gospel and now He was providing a way.

"I have liked everything about the training and we have learned many new and different things. They give you practical tools to plant churches in the Kingdom of God," Rufino shares.

The work is not without its challenges, however. "There are people who do not want to know about the gospel because of the bad examples of other Christians who have come,” Rufino says. “Those experiences are like weeds to our work. However, we are seeing that they are receiving us and want to hear and learn.”

Rufino's Story

In this whole process, Rufino has appreciated the support from Pastor Roberto, who is acting as his mentor, and his wife María Dolores, pictured left with Rufino and two of their kids. MNM’s church planter program encourages all church planters to have the support of their mother church and their spouse so the church planter is never alone in this work.

Equipped with what he is learning at MNM’s training, Rufino walks more than 40 minutes to take the gospel to the people of San Juancito, another community close to the area where he lives, with the goal of planting the seed and seeing fruit and that it multiplies.
