Joseph's Story – Nigeria

Joseph Poroye is a church planter in Ogbomosho, Nigeria, where many are Muslim. When Joseph first came to this village, he saw an opportunity to bring the gospel message of hope to the people there. His efforts were to build up a community of believers through the church planter training provided by Multiplication Network Ministries (MNM).

By the grace of God, Joseph was successful. His training had taught him how to reach people with the gospel. Through his ministry, Joseph led three Muslims to give their lives to Christ. These three witnessed the love of God available in Christ through His servant Joseph and they were moved to accept this love and salvation.

One of these Muslim converts was Mrs. Adaji. She encountered Jesus and her life was forever changed. This encounter created many challenges in her life. Her husband was a practicing Muslim and he began to persecute her. Eventually, he threw her out of the house. Every Muslim believes there is a punishment for any Muslim who leaves Islam for another religion. Such a person is an apostate and is renounced by the Muslim community, even by family members.

Mrs. Adaji left her home with four of her children who insisted on following her. Joseph and other members of the church came together and found her and her children a place to stay. Joseph’s ministry through the church plant continues to steadily work in this community and he continues to strive towards bringing more Muslims to Christ.
