Hope in Jesus

During the 1994 Rwandan genocide, Alivera’s children were brutally killed. That day, she not only lost her loved ones—Alivera lost hope as well.

She felt God had abandoned her.

For the next 20 years, Alivera had nothing to do with God or Christianity. In her mind, if God existed, He could have saved her children’s lives and her family would be whole. Instead, she was left to pick up the pieces of a life shattered by violence.

However, God had not forgotten Alivera or her pain.

Bonheur, another genocide survivor, attended the first Multiplication Network Ministries (MNM) church planter training in Rwanda. As he went through the modules, it became very clear that God was calling him to specifically reach out to those who were victims of the genocide.

Bonheur met Alivera and began ministering to her. Through him, God showed Alivera His love. Her eyes were opened and she realized her need for a Savior. When she accepted Jesus, Alivera was filled with peace. The pain of losing her family is still present but knowing she is indeed loved by God has helped ease her burden.

Through MNM’s training, Bonheur learned how to disciple new believers and Alivera is one of many who are hearing more about God. Alivera has become a committed member of the church Bonheur is leading and she has begun to join Bonheur to reach others like them who survived the genocide. Together, they bring the good news of peace, love, and hope found only in Jesus Christ.
