Darío and Freddy's Story

  • Published on

Dario and Freddy's StoryGod has brought a physics professor and a professional chauffeur together to plant churches in the Ecuadorian Sierra. Darío (left) and reddy (right) have a shared passion to serve the Lord—they felt in their hearts they must fulfill what God was asking of them because the town of Maná had a great need for the gospel of Jesus. Very few people had heard about God's unfailing love. The only thing they knew were the traditions their parents had taught them.

Darío left his hometown of Latacunga to bring his whole family to Maná, two hours away, to work with Freddy in church planting. Freddy is a physics professor in the area but in the evening, he and Darío set aside their professions to dedicate themselves completely to the church plant.

When they began working in Maná, they began from nothing except their commitment to see a faith community honoring the Lord. However, Darío and Freddy were blessed to receive church planter training through Multiplication Network Ministries. The panorama of the work became much clearer—they learned the specific steps of how to form a church and understood the time it would take them.

Darío and Freddy began working with the children. "It was our way of reaching out to the parents and they came with their kids!" Darío says excitedly. For the first time, the people of Maná can hear the Word of God and learn how they can have a personal relationship with Him.

Now Darío and Freddy are concentrated on discipling and strengthening the 40 new believers through Bible studies. They also are focusing on raising up leaders who will be encouraged to share their testimonies of what the Lord has done in their lives.

These church planters are excited for what God is doing through their lives. They share that it has been a blessing to work together with the same vision to reach people with the gospel who have never heard of Jesus and the new life He has to offer them.

Setting Aside Insecurities

Olinda's Story"I was scared because I can't write or even read. I told myself there were people more prepared than me," confesses Olinda.

Olinda lives in Coatepequl, Guatemala and was invited by the pastors of her church invited to be part of Multiplication Network Ministries' (MNM) church planting program. At first she resisted. She told them she was sure it was impossible for her to be a part of that on account that she cannot read or write. "They told me God did not look at our grades but instead at the intentions that everyone has to serve Him and work for Him."

Then Olinda remembered her prayer to the Lord in which she asked Him for a way to be able to reach her family for Christ. This training was the answer to her prayers! Did she have the courage to accept it?

With great courage, Olinda set aside her insecurities and put herself into God's hands to be used as He wanted.

In MNM's training, Olinda learned how to share the Word of God with others and how to make discipleship groups. Wielding this knowledge, she visited a neighborhood that welcomed her and asked her why she was visiting. Olinda told them about her goal of planting a church in the area.

"They told me this was excellent news because no one in the community was concerned about doing something like that," Olinda shares excitedly. They offered to help her with what she needed and this positive response surprised and motivated her.

"I could see the people were interested in the Word of God, but there was no one to share it or teach it to them," Olinda says. From that moment, her fears and insecurities left her and she has plans to return there soon to begin a Bible study. With tears in her eyes, Olinda shares how grateful she is that God answered her prayer and is using her to share the gospel with others.

Gerardo's Story

Gerardo's StoryThe training was an answer from God. Gerardo has desired to serve God for years and when he went through the church planter training provided through Multiplication Network Ministries, he knew God had heard his prayer.

In Santander de Quilichao, Colombia, where Gerardo is working to plant a church, there are around 20 people who attend this new community of faith and Gerardo couldn't be more pleased. At 70 years old, he shares that it has been a blessing to be able to dedicate himself to God's work and be on the right path.

But like many church planters, Gerardo knows this work would be impossible without the Spirit of God working in every person. "We do not argue with the people about religion but instead show them from their Bibles what is says about Christ and salvation."

They have begun to disciple people and also motivate others to share the Word. "We have three evangelists in the church and we are always looking for districts where we can preach the Word of God. Now we have four places where we are evangelizing," Gerardo says excitedly.

Gerardo has a small group in the library of the public school as well. "The people need to hear about Christ now more than ever before. There is a lot of alcoholism, family issues and unemployment," he shares.

They have been integrating children into the discipleship process and in other places where they are sharing the gospel, there are indigenous people who sometimes come to the meetings. This small church, Gerardo says, will continue growing and sharing the love of God with others.
